Great Orme grave Donald Boyd-Ball

Grave of Donald Boyd-BallDonald Boyd-Ball (d.2001)

Donald Boyd-Ball was born in 1925. His gravestone records that he was known to many as “Mr Llandudno”. This refers to his local fame as an auctioneer in the town. The Ball and Boyd business was established in the 1950s, when it was also an estate agent and valuer. Its main premises were at Loyal Arcade, Mostyn Street.

Donald was an enthusiastic supporter of the Round Table and other charitable causes. The photo of him auctioneering is shown here courtesy of John Lawson-Reay.

Donald died suddenly in 2001, a year before the death of his wife Freda Annette. Ball and Boyd ceased to trade three years later. One of its last auctions was a fund-raiser hosted by television personalities to raise money for Children in Need and for a local toddler, who suffered eye cancer, to go on a trip to Disneyland Paris.
