Son of William M and Louisa Kirkus; husband of Ethel Blanche Kirkus of Madingley, Eastham, Cheshire. Educated at Liverpool College, Sedbergh College and St Catherine’s, Cambridge. Lived locally at Brynhyfryd. Left four children.

  • Morris, Robert, Private 2485. Died 13/08/1915 aged 29. Royal Welsh Fusiliers. Helles Memorial. Son of Mr and Mrs Joseph Morris of Penybryn. Lived at Club House.
  • Newborough, William Charles, Lieutenant (middle initial shown as W on war memorial). Died 19/07/1916 aged 43. Welsh Guards. 4th Baron. Buried in a grave dug into rock near Bryn Llywelyn, Llan Ffestiniog, his “Welsh seat”. Son of the Hon Thomas John and Mrs Wynn; husband of Lady Newborough of 39 Park Lane, London. He owned Ynys Enlli (Bardsey) and much of the land around Blaenau Ffestiniog. He died of pleurisy and other complications at his London home after catching a chill in the trenches in France.

  • Price, Arthur, Private 16083. Died 13/10/1916 aged c.23. Royal Welsh Fusiliers. Buried Mendinghem Military Cemetery. Son of Mr and Mrs Price of Belle View. Worked for butcher ED Hughes before enlisting.
  • Price, Humphrey, Private 5865/252633. Died 12/06/1917. Manchester Regiment. Youngest son of David and Ann Price of Bron Goronwy Farm, Cwm Cynfal. Drowned in Llyn Du Bach (east of Llan Ffestiniog) while on leave. He had gone with his brother and brother-in-law to the peat harvest in the mountains and went to the lake to bathe. He was due to return to his unit in Scarborough the following day, before going to France within a month. David, then a widower, was granted a war gratuity of £3 13s 6d for Humphrey’s death.
