The memorial was moved to its present position beside Hillside Avenue in October 1960 and rededicated.

One of the people named on the war memorial is Betty Kathleen Thorne, a Leading Aircraftwoman in the Women's Auxiliary Air Force. She died in February 1945, aged 22.

Another local woman who died in the Second World War was Ethel May Hayward, killed when the Luftwaffe bombed Canterbury, in Kent, on 1 June 1942. Her parents, Mr and Mrs H Pritchard, lived at 24 Robert Street, Llanharan.
