The memorial was unveiled in 1923 and consists of a cross with plaques set into the curving churchyard wall behind.

Among those named on the memorial is Private Oscar Bentley, of the 5th (Royal Irish) Lancers. He had been wounded on the Western Front before returning to his regiment in Dublin. He died in Dublin after a sniper’s bullet hit him in the neck on the first day of the 1916 Easter Rising against British rule.

Noel Turner and his nephew Alan Langlands, both from Welshpool, died in France on the same day, 9 May 1915.

The name of Lizzie Dora Stephens was added to the memorial in 2011. She was born in Welshpool and served in Queen Mary’s Army Auxiliary Corps during the First World War. She died, aged 23, in April 1918.
