Newbridge war memorial

This memorial was unveiled in 1995 to replace the town’s cenotaph, which was erected in 1936. The cenotaph, in Caetwmpyn Park, had suffered vandalism before it was donated to the St Fagans National History Museum (near Cardiff), where it was re-dedicated in October 1996.

The current memorial in Newbridge centres on plaques listing local people who died in the First and Second World Wars and the Cyprus conflict of 1956. To read their details, choose a category below.

Our research has uncovered numerous other men who died on active service and had connections with Newbridge, but were omitted from the memorial plaques. We have included them in our lists, with their omission denoted.

Newbridge Memorial Hall was built in the 1920s to commemorate the First Wold War dead and to provide a theatre and cinema.

With thanks to Adrian Hughes and Shaun McGuire
