Blaenau Gwent history

Blaenau GwentThe Industrial Revolution transformed Blaenau Gwent into an ironmaking powerhouse, thanks to accessible deposits of all the raw materials needed for iron production. Deep collieries and steelworks followed. The communities which evolved in tandem with these industries had a strong sense of social justice, backing the Chartist movement and producing many reformers. The local model of improving access to healthcare for all led to the NHS being founded by Aneurin Bevan of Tredegar.
