Prestatyn Nova Centre, Central Beach

In 1923 an outdoor swimming pool was created at this site. The pool was originally fed with seawater. It was converted to an indoor pool in 1985, when construction of the Nova Centre placed a roof above the original pool

The site also has a long history of entertainment. A ballroom was provided here from the outset, in 1923. When Prestatyn Urban District Council took over in 1958, the complex was redeveloped as the Royal Lido.

The Starlight Suite quickly became a major music venue, visited by some of the biggest bands of the age. The Beatles played here in 1962, The Rolling Stones in 1963 and Status Quo in 1969.

The Nova Centre is now owned and managed by Denbighshire County Council. It reopened in 2015 after a £4.4m refurbishment. As well as the 25-metre swimming pool, it now features a fitness suite, a restaurant with sea views, a café, function rooms and a beach-themed soft play area on three storeys.
