Risca war memorial

This war memorial commemorates the local people who died in the First and Second World Wars. To discover who they were, choose a category below.

The memorial features a small Celtic cross on a tapered column. It stands in a small garden beside Cromwell Road, at the northern end of Risca.

There are no names on the memorial itself. Our lists have been compiled from official records and details given on memorial plaques in local chapels and churches. The plaques include the names of individuals from Cross Keys and Pontymister, and we have therefore included those communities in our lists for Risca war memorial.

We are grateful to Steve Veysey for allowing us to draw on his detailed research on Risca’s First World War dead. You can read more about them at his website here.

Among the FWW casualties from Risca was Margaret Hannah Davies. She was a cook with Queen Mary’s Army Auxiliary Corps and died in February 1919.

With thanks to Steve Veysey, Shaun McGuire, Byron Jones and Steven John
