  • Jones, Alan, Able Seaman. Died 13/08/1942 aged 24. Merchant Navy – MV Waimarama (Southampton). Tower Hill Memorial Son of Robert and Jane Jones. Born in Pwllheli. The ship was part of the famous convoy which fought its way to Malta in August 1942. It exploded after being bombed, with the loss of 87 crew members.

Born in Mynytho. The ship was on the Indian Ocean when captured as a prize on 20/02/01941 by the German pocket battleship Admiral Scheer. John died of diphtheria as a prisoner of war at Sandbostel, Germany. Born in Pwllheli. The ship was sunk, with the loss of 18 lives, by two German E-boats off the Isle of Wight while taking ammunition to the Normandy beaches with a cargo of ammunition after D-Day.

Born in Pwllheli, The ship was lost, with 46 lives, after being ordered to pick up survivors from a British merchant ship which had been sunk by a German submarine.
