  • Edward Herbert Gittins, Corporal 23008. Died 12/12/1917 aged 26. The King's (Liverpool Regiment) 13th Bn. Buried at Favreuil British Cemetery. Husband of Mrs Elizabeth Gittins of 125 High Street, Bangor. Worked as a tailor before the war. Wounded at the Somme in 1916 and invalided back to Britain. Returned to France in May 1917. Left a daughter.
  • Henry Joseph Gowers, Gunner 317188. Died 02/09/1918 aged 24. Royal Garrison Artillery, 1st/1st (Welsh) Heavy Bty. 53rd Bde. Son of Thomas and Mary Jane Gowers. Born in Rochester, Kent, and enlisted in Chatham.
  • Robert Grant, Private 770. Died 08/05/1915 aged 28. Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (Eastern Ontario Regiment). Commemorated at Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial. Son of Richard and Leah Grant, of 78 Mount Street, Bangor. Emigrated to Canada in 1906 and worked as a builder’s labourer and butcher in Edmonton.
  • Francis Griffith, Private 26386. Died 26/11/1920 aged 46. Royal Defence Corps. Buried at Tregarth (St. Mary) Churchyard. Son of John and Jane Griffith, of Gelli Rd, Bangor; husband of Susan Griffith, of Gelli Rd, Bangor. Was a domestic servant and a slate quarryman before the war. Not named on Bangor war memorial.
  • George Griffith, Captain. Died 08/03/1920 aged 43. Mercantile Marine – SS Daisy. Buried at Bangor (Glanadda) Cemetery. Son of George and Ann Griffith, of Bangor; husband of Ellen Griffith, of 1 Fountain Street. His ship was attacked in November 1918. He died from a wound from that attack. Left three children.
  • Hugh Griffith, Private. Died 21/07/1917 aged 34. South Wales Borderers. Son of Hugh and Mary Griffith of 6 Hendrewen Road, Bangor; husband of Annie Griffith of Nantymoel, Glamorgan. Worked underground as a colliery labourer.
  • John Ellis Griffiths, Gunner 310480. Died 04/03/1917 dage 20. Royal Garrison Artillery 1st/1st Welch (Carnarvon). Buried at Varennes Military Cemetery. Son of Robert and Margaret Griffiths, of Britannia Square, Bangor. Was a hairdresser’s apprentice in 1911.

  • Oswald Griffith, Lieutenant. Died 27/02/1915 aged 27. Royal Field Artillery 80th Bty. Buried at Nieuwkerke (Neuve-Eglise) Churchyard. Son of Mr and Mrs Robert Griffith, of 5 Park Hill, Bangor. Studied at Friars School, Bangor, and Bangor University. Taught at Caernarfon National School and other schools before the war. Killed by a German sniper.

  • Watcyn Emil Owen Griffith, Private 26402. Died 10/07/1916. Royal Welsh Fusiliers. Thiepval Memorial. Born in Bangor. Son of John and Dorothy Griffith. John was a teacher, working in Dolgellau in 1911. Watcyn enlisted in Dolgellau.

Son of Margaret Williams (who had remarried); eldest brother of Miss Margaret Hughes, 12 Frondeg Street, Bangor. Worked as a labourer at a slate works.

Buried at at Bangor (Glanadda) Cemeter, according to local remembrance book, which gives his date of death as 26/02/1919. Commonwealth War Graves Commission gives his burial place as Etaples Military Cemetery, unlikely this long after the end of hostilities.

Son of John and Jane Hughes, of 11 Albert Street, Upper Bangor; husband of Kate Hughes, of 2 Trefelin Cottages, Llandegai. Was a cab driver, later a fisherman’s carter. Left two sons.

Son of Hugh Owen and Jane Hughes, of 5, Orme Terrace, Euston Road. Septic poisoning affected his battalion in Egypt, while he was working as a doctor’s orderly. He fell ill and died of dysentry at West Didsbury Military Hospital, Manchester. Was a London & North Western Railway painted before the war.
