Grave of Jane Crump

Jane Crump (d.1882)

This distinctively shaped tombstone was erected by the “Vicarage family” in memory of Jane Crump “who for upwards of fifty years had been their faithful servant”. She died on 10 May 1882, aged 69. The vicarage at the time was occupied by the family of vicar William Venables Williams, who died the following year.Vicarage in Victorian times

The vicarage is also mentioned on the tomb of Issac Charles, near the south-east corner of the church. A clerk and vicar of the parish, he was buried on “July ye 9 1763”. His inscription records: “He was a worthy clergyman and generous benefactor to this church in building in 1762 a decent house for the Vicars, there of which he lived to finish but not to enjoy.”
