Prestatyn grave John Meirion Lloyd
John Meirion Lloyd (d.1998)
John Meirion Lloyd was born in Corris, near Machynlleth, in 1913. His father was a slate quarryman. After training as an engineer he was ordained as a Presbyterian minister.
He departed for India as a missionary in 1944. He settled in the remote Mizoram region. He was soon joined by his wife Joan, and they raised their children while living there. John worked tirelessly to improve education in the region, including establishing a secondary school, a theological college and a school of arts. He became fluent the local language and helped to produce the first edition of the bible in Mizo.
John and Joan returned in 1964 to Britain, where he worked for the Bible Society. He was a pastor in Rhyl before spending much of his retirement writing and editing books about missionaries and Christianity in Mizoram.
He was living in Prestatyn at the time of his death in 1998. Joan died at a care home in Rhyl in 2017.
