Monument commemoratif de la guerre de Dolgarrog, Conway Road

Ce monument commémore le souvenir des autochtones morts aux Première et Seconde Guerres Mondiales. Vous trouverez ci-dessous les informations les concernant, si connues. C’est la branche de la British Legion de Dolgarrog qui a érigé ce mémorial en 1927, année où cette branche s’est installée dans l’ancien Porth Llwyd Hotel.

Parmi les noms inscrits sur le mémorial, se trouve celui d’Harry Claude Jack, dont le père était le directeur général de la fabrique d’aluminium de Dolgarrog. Harry a servi dans l’Highland Light Infantry et suivait un entrainement avec le Royal Flying Corps (prédécesseur de la RAF) quand il est mort dans un accident d’avion en 1916.

John Noel Mahler a été également tué dans un accident d’avion, pendant la Seconde Guerre Mondiale. Il avait été décoré auparavant de la Distinguished Flying Cross pour son adresse et son courage dans l’atterrissage d’un bombardier endommagé qui a permis à tout l’équipage de s’échapper.

Son of Mrs Carpenter of Wood View, Wrecclesham, Farnham; husband of Maria Carpenter of 18 Gwydr Road, Dolgarrog. Left a widow and 10 children, two of whom were in the army.   • J Pettifor, Serjeant 15481. Died 06/05/1918, age 25. Royal Welsh Fusiliers 11th Bn. Doiran Memorial. Son of John Robert and Ellen Pettifor, of 1, Glan Dulyn Terrace, Talybont, Talycafn. Wounded on the Somme in 1916. Also named on Talybont war memorial.
  • Harry Claude Jack, Second Lieutenant. Died in flying accident 01/09/1916, aged 23. Royal Flying Corps and Highland Light Infantry. Gosport (Ann’s Hill) Cemetery. Only son of Henry Joseph Jack, manager of Dolgarrog aluminium works, and Emily Jack of Maenan Manor. Educated in Brussels and London. Was a civil engineer for North American railroads before the war.
